Question by Ryan B: Which driver should I buy? (loft, draw, etc.)?
Hi all… just in the market for a new driver to help out my golf game. I currently shoot in the high 80′s to low 90′s. My irons are Nike Slingshot OSS and I absolutely love them. I have an older Callaway Big Bertha driver, but I’m looking to replace it. I’m pretty sure that I’m settled on a Taylor Made Burner Driver, but I’m just not sure what configuration I want. For example, should I get the 9.5 or 10.5 degree club? Also, should I go for the Draw version or the regular version? As of now, I don’t slice the ball too bad, but it does fade on occassion. Thanks in advance for all the help.

I would just stick to what you Callaway driver was in loft, but i would get a 10.5. The Taylormade Burner is a really nice driver. If i were you i would just get the regular one because you do not slice that much. If you want to hit a draw though then get the draw.

Question by Mike C: What hybrid should I get?
My Wood work needs help so I went to the local golfsmith and tried out the TaylorMade tp burner 19* and the Callaway X 18*. I liked both of them in the store but out of your expiriences on the golf course what would you recomend? I’m a rookie golfer with not much power (5wood 175) so I need big time forgiveness in a club. Also do you prefer steel or graphite?

Question by Jacob: What ball should I use?
I am getting a new set of clubs for Christmas (long way off, I know, but today was like 55*F and raining and not golf weather, and my course will be closed soon), BUT: I am a 14 year old (6’1″) who can drive 190-205, but I am on a budget. At my Target, they have Callaways, Nike, and Top-Flite among others.
Callaway and Nike both have excellent stuff, but the Top-Flite is way better budget wise.
So, in the Top-Flite’s I am deciding between D2 Distance-for more distance or D2 Feel-Soft and is good on and around greens.
I would really like honest opinion about whether I should get a soft ball that feels great off the club and good for scoring, or one a little firmer, but not too hard, that gives me about 5-15 more yards off the tee.
I’m actually just a beginner- started a couple months ago, so am I doing pretty good distancewise (190-205)?

Answer by Kev
if you want a better short game and touch use the ball with feel, if you want to gain distance but loose some touch on short game, get the distance ball. Top flite is a pretty good ball for a low price, but callaway and nike have good balls that are cheap. good luck

Question by JW320YARDDRIVE: Should I change drivers when I am hitting it 320 yards at the driving range?
I started golf a month ago, and I have used a driver for 3 days now and my drives are going further and further with my avg drive being about 300 now and 2 out of 10 drives going about 320. Its fair to say I can hit 290-300 straight consistently but when I try to swing harder I tend to slice it and can only get about 20% of my shots to go 320 and straight. MY QUESTIONS ARE: 1. would changing clubs to the Callaway FT IQ with the same stiff shaft and 10 degree loft help me to be able to consistently hit it 320 and straight?
2. Would the Taylormade R9 be a better choice?
3. Should I just stick witht the callaway FT5 since I can hit it 300 consistently after just 3 days hitting a driver in my life?
BTW, I AM ABOUT 5 FOOT 11 AND 220 LBS WITH ABOUT 15% BODY FAT….THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY RESPONSE AND FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME SUGGESTIONS. I HAVENT HIT ANY OF MY OTHER CLUBS THE LAST 3 DAYS BECAUSE IM SO FASCINATED WITH THE DRIVER AND THE DISTANCE I AM GETTING, IT CAUSES A CROWD TO WATCH AT THE DRIVING RANGE AND I LIKE THE ATTENTION

Answer by Leafsfan29 is on the 1st tee
Sure…maybe have 10 or 12 different drivers in your bag.
You do understand that, on a typical 18 hole course you’ll hit the driver 14 times (at most).
Your putter will be used at least twice as much. Of course, you’ll soon post a “question” about how you shoot 53 for 18 holes and how you can bet the pros.
Your technical questions…either go see a PGA Professional, or keep fishing for compliments (you’ve clearly got a massive ego).
There’s an old saying…it’s not the arrow, it’s the Indian. Meaning it’s not the club, it’s the guy swinging it.

Question by Billie L Miller: What forgiving Golf Driver should I buy?
Im left handed just started golf this season. I paid to get on a launch monitor last week and my swing speed is ave 112 MPH tops at 119mph out of the 15 swings. My spin rate is 3800-3900 and my loft is 17-19. They told me to look for a Driver shaft with a high kick point to bring the ball flight down and that the degree of the club face doesn’t matter? I was using a stiff 06 burner 9.5. Shaft was 65grams. Im looking at getting a new driver and a couple are on my list for cost and reviews. The Callaway 9* Diablo driver I can get new for 139.99 stiff flex. Or the Cleveland Monster XLS Driver 9.5* Stiff i can get like new for 110.00. Any suggestions?? Thanks

If you can find it….try the Ping G-10. The newer G-15 will run you $ 299.00, but you can have it fitted.

Question by mamba: What Golf equipment should I get next?
I’ve been playing for a little while, and been using some cheap clubs (Wilson HyperSpeeds). I have wanted new clubs, but wanted to wait till I developed my swing a little more and maybe get fitted by golftec. I’m ready to make a purchase, but cannot decide on what to get. It’s out of these options.
1. Callaway Diablo Edge 9,7, and PW
2. Callaway Range Finder LR550
3. Callaway Jaw wedges 52 and 56
4. Clickgear 3.0 Push Cart
I want them and need them all, but can only get one right now.

I do not recommend the Acuity brand clubs. I know price is the main factor, but you might want to look at a used set of name brand clubs.

Question by Tyler C: I got an Albatross (a double-eagle). Who should I report it to?
This past Saturday (August 18, 2007), I scored a 2 on the 509 yard, par 5, no. 12 at Millwood Golf Club in Springfield, MO, using a driver and a 3-iron. I told the pro-shop about it because they are the one’s who are supposed to call things into the newspaper but the kid behind the counter told me they only call in hole-in-ones. I happened to know a guy who works for the local paper in Springfield and I called him and he had it put in for me.
Is there anyone else I need to report this to? Should I report it to Titleist (I was using a ProV1) or Callaway (I used a Callaway driver and 3-iron). Are there any groups or websites who keep track of these things?
Just curious. This was a once in a lifetime thing so I want to make sure I’m getting it recorded where it needs to be.
