Question by Jean-Louis: 1-iron vs. driver? Ten Points?
I have been golfing for 5 years now. I’m 16 and I can’t hit my driver. I completely smash my 1-iron its straight and long. So my question is why can’t I hit my driver? I have a Callaway Big Bertha 454 driver. Its 11* loft and has a RHC light shaft. I don’t know my exact club head speed but it isn’t that fast. I choke down on every club in my bag including my 1 iron. I hit my 1-iron 200 yds and my driver goes 50ft. then drastically turns right. should I even bother with my driver anymore?
The 50ft. was an exageration.

The swing between irons and driver for me has always been slightly different. I try to keep the driver near the ground as long as possible during my backswing, this allows me to have a better plane to hit the ball on the follow through.

Question by Ryan B: Which driver should I buy? (loft, draw, etc.)?
Hi all… just in the market for a new driver to help out my golf game. I currently shoot in the high 80′s to low 90′s. My irons are Nike Slingshot OSS and I absolutely love them. I have an older Callaway Big Bertha driver, but I’m looking to replace it. I’m pretty sure that I’m settled on a Taylor Made Burner Driver, but I’m just not sure what configuration I want. For example, should I get the 9.5 or 10.5 degree club? Also, should I go for the Draw version or the regular version? As of now, I don’t slice the ball too bad, but it does fade on occassion. Thanks in advance for all the help.

I would just stick to what you Callaway driver was in loft, but i would get a 10.5. The Taylormade Burner is a really nice driver. If i were you i would just get the regular one because you do not slice that much. If you want to hit a draw though then get the draw.

Question by macnkitty2002: Need a new driver. Slice and control problems, looking for driver to help fix it.?
I am looking to purchase a new driver for my set. Here’s some info that may help you help me:
Age: 19
Height: 6′-1″
Weight: 200
Build: Fit, very strong, tennis player
Typical driver distance (using 90% power): 200-210yd
Typical 7 iron distance: 150yd
Irons: Ping Eye 2
Woods: Callaway Big Bertha War Bird 2, graphite shafts, 10 degree driver
I’ve been playing golf for most of my life, but don’t get to play but about once per month. I have a problem with shots off the tee where I have to use a good bit of power. When I need to use power, all my control goes out the window and I end up hitting it to the right (about 25 degrees off center) or slicing the heck out of it. And because the War Bird’s face is so small I mis-hit the ball often. I tried my friend’s Ping g10 and hit beautiful long straight shots. If I hit my War Birds at 50% power, I get the same effect but it only goes 175 yds.
I want a driver that will help me hit straighter and further while using less power. Price range is $ 200 or less. Thinking about the Callaway FT-5 or FT-i, any other suggestions?
And is Maxfli a good club brand? I know they make good balls, but their drivers are $ 100 less but I can’t figure out why.
Thanks!

Callaway FTI Driver draw biases 10.5 degree with a Fujikura speeder stiff flex. When I demo’d this club it was very hard to slice.
Sounds like your strong enough to use a stiff shaft. This club would be a great help. Check out some of the other reviews , you might find something you like better.

Question by GoDawgs: DRIVER SHAFT: Shaft Flex Point?
So today I went to my local golf shop to test out some new drivers, as mine is really nothing more than a waste of space. After using their swing analysis tool and hitting about 60 or so golf balls, I found my average swing speed to be 111mph and driving the ball consistantly over 260 – putting me way beyond the limits of my old regular flex shaft, and leading me to find out that there is more to a club than just its degree of flex.
While testing the new Nike Mach Speed Turbo (stiff shaft) and finding myself unable to square the clubface consistantly (which hasn’t been a problem for me in the past when I have used a stiff shaft), I asked if they had any clubs with an extra-stiff shaft. They didn’t, but the employee also told me that an extra-stiff shaft, while parhaps beneficial for my high clubhead speed, might not be the key to helping me square the clubface…
That’s when he brought out the Callaway Diablo Edge Tour (stiff shaft), and I started absolutely crushing balls; even breaking the 300 yard barrier on several occasions. The guy said something to me about most drivers flexing a lot toward the bottom of the shaft near the head, and that this one flexed closer to the middle, but I can’t really remember what it was he was talking about.
Since I don’t really have $ 300 to buy the driver, I’m hoping to find a similar one online. I’m wondering if someone might be able to help me understand what it was the instructor was talking about, so I may look for the right information I need when shopping for clubs. Anyone know what this guy was talking about??
Thanks a lot for your help!

I think you are referring to kick point. If you were able to push on both ends of a shaft at the same time with quite a bit of force, it would bend under the load. Because the shaft is tapered, it would bend at a point closer to the smaller-diameter tip end than to the larger-diameter butt end. A low-kick-point shaft has this flex point closer to the tip and produces a higher launch angle; a high-kick-point shaft has this bend point only about 5 inches from the low kick point, closer to the butt end of the shaft, and produces a lower launch angle. Some shafts also bend in the middle thus having a mid kick point. So it sounds like you were trying out a driver with a low kick point shaft.

Question by I Love Moo Moo Cows: Which Driver suits best?
So I’m a novice at golf (Not quite a Beginner, not an Amateur)
I’ve been using a Palm Springs driver for the past year which I bought second-hand. The head of the driver broke and I’m looking to get a new driver.
I went to my local Golfstore and they recommended 3 drivers.
1)Nike SQ SUMO 5900
2)Nike SQ Dymo2
3)Callaway Big Bertha Diablo.
All nice looking clubs, but I need advice on which one to choose.
I’m 5,7. Right-Handed. I seem to slice the ball alot from the tee, and thats when the guy at the store told me to go for either of the Nike. Then he said if I wanted to go for some real power to go for the Callaway. Anybody got experience with any of the clubs.
Thanks

Question by Dale H: How do I tell if a driver is counterfeit?
Hi,
I bought a Callaway Razr Hawk driver off eBay last week for $ 250 (auction), plus $ 11 for shipping and handling. Currently, at golf retail stores, this same driver is selling for $ 399.99.
I’ve owned several Callaway drivers (FT3, FT9, FT-IZ in I-mix), TaylorMade Burner 09, Cleveland Launcher Comp (I believe 2005). I know how Callaway drivers sound, and this one sounds the same at impact.
The S/N number verified with Callaway that it was a legit club. It passed the magnet test (magnets don’t stick to titanium), and I, as well as employees at a golf retail store, compared it to the clubs in the store and it looks exactly the same.
HOWEVER, an employee at Edwin Watts golf store told me that he doesn’t understand how someone could sell the Razr Hawk driver for $ 250 and make money. He believes something has to be going on… maybe Callaway reps/salespeople selling on eBay to make a profit, or it is the best counterfeit he has ever seen.
Please help if you have any ideas. The eBay retailer who sold the club has a 100% positive feedback percentage. The eBay member ID is gotgolfusa. This seller offered a 3 day return policy- which allows buyers time to compare to retail shops.
I played with the new driver this weekend and I got about the same distance using the Razr Hawk as the Callaway driver I use now- the FT-IZ Imix. The club appears legit.
Any ideas how someone can sell A 2011 MODEL CLUB FOR ABOUT 60% of the retail asking price? I’m new to eBay and buying/selling clubs on eBay.
Thanks!
Evelyn Flora- I’m not sure what’s going on. I read another one of your responses. What the heck are you talking about real clubs and the S/N numbers, then say I must express and be clear?
I clearly stated that the S/N number is legit. HOWEVER, MOST GOLF ENTHUSIASTS realize that clubs are sold as real Callaways, TaylorMade, etc, and DO INCLUDE A LEGIT S/N. ONCE A COUNTERFEITER has a legit S/N, the counterfeiter can then mass produce with the legit S/N.
Basically, S/N numbers on clubs don’t mean a whole lot.
I agree with the others that said if I’m hitting it well, then who cares. TRUE. However, how would I perform with the real deal.
I think I have a legit club. The feel of it compared to the others I held, side by side, was the same and couldn’t spot a anything at all different- but salespeople told me that counterfeit clubs have come a long way…. It also makes me question if Edwin Watts didn’t just tell me that it’s legit (you would think they’d know between a couple of

Question by Billie L Miller: What forgiving Golf Driver should I buy?
Im left handed just started golf this season. I paid to get on a launch monitor last week and my swing speed is ave 112 MPH tops at 119mph out of the 15 swings. My spin rate is 3800-3900 and my loft is 17-19. They told me to look for a Driver shaft with a high kick point to bring the ball flight down and that the degree of the club face doesn’t matter? I was using a stiff 06 burner 9.5. Shaft was 65grams. Im looking at getting a new driver and a couple are on my list for cost and reviews. The Callaway 9* Diablo driver I can get new for 139.99 stiff flex. Or the Cleveland Monster XLS Driver 9.5* Stiff i can get like new for 110.00. Any suggestions?? Thanks
