American Golf Clubs and Japanese Golf Clubs

Oktober 22, 2011

There are two kinds of on the market, Japanese version and American version. Some common golfers may have little knowledge on their differences. Here I’d like to analyze the features of Japanese version shaft and American version shaft. I hope it is helpful for you to choose the right shaft when you consider changing your . This article is based on the standard shafts on the markets, not referring to any customized shafts.

The world’s largest market of golf clubs is America. So many big golf brand companies are based on United States. As familiar with us, company, Ping, Taylormade and cleveland are created in U.S. Because United States is the largest market, many golf equipment manufacturers mainly target to expand sales in U.S. Hence the mainstream golf clubs are dominated by U.S. regulations. The statures of Americans have the innate physical differences with that of Asians. Some golf equipment manufacturers develop new products on the basis of American statures. Japan is the third golf markets in the world, which lead to some manufacturers, make some Japanese version clubs to meet the need ofJapan golf market. That resulted in so-called American Standard shaft and Japanese Standard shaft.

Basically, this is generated by the difference of sales objects. At the same time, it proves golf is a personal sport. Golf clubs manufacturers are not able to sell clubs with unique standards and specifications to all the golf players’ wide world, so it is necessary to do some adjustment according to different users. In that case, golf clubs consumers are able to know the advantages of the golf clubs in different areas.

Difference in Weight

Generally speaking, weight difference is an apparent specifications difference, which is a very straightforward impression to golf users. Too heavy or too light does not work, so that weight is an important setting. Because Asians and Americans differ in size and physical fitness, the weight of the American standard golf clubs is heavier than Japanese version golf clubs, among10gto20gor more. So on the basis of Japanese regulations focus on lightweight design. If Asian golfers all played withU.S.regulation clubs, maybe more than half of them would have been automatically surrendered. And it is also very prone to injuries.

Difference in Length

Length influences the performance of a lot. Too long or too short clubs can not help your playing. GenerallyU.S. regulations golf clubs is shorter than Japanese regulation golf clubs by about 0.25 ” to 0.75″. Because Asian golfers are not as good as Western golfers in physical strength, a longer golf clubs can get better distance effect. And Asians are more sophistical and hardworking than Americans, so they are easier to control long clubs.

Take golf drivers as example, the American drivers is now mainly 45 ” in length and Japanese version drivers is 45.5″. There are many Japanese brands made drivers more than 46” long. The 0.5 ” length difference has a significant impact on the operation. It is a sensitive operational factor. But nowadays, long golf clubs begin to be a trend for distance. Taylormade released R11 series and released . These new released golf clubs are generally longer than former products.

Difference in Shaft Brand and Flex

Shaft is a very important part for a whole golf club. Asians are more sensitive and dedicated than Americans. Many people can’t get too much feel when hitting American golf clubs, but they can get a nice feel by hitting Japanese versions. Excepts for soft shaft, the bending and rebound are also easy to be felt. Because Asian players’ swing speed is relatively slower, their shaft are accordingly softer and lighter, to pursue the best distance and trajectory.

Generally American version shaft weights more than 120g. True Temper Dynamic Gold R300, S300 (125g ~ 130g weight) are mainstream American shafts. However Japanese versions are mainly True Temper Dynamic Gold R200, S200. (115g more or less) Recently Japanese steel shafts are mainly fitted with NS PRO 950 Shaft, weighing less than 95g. So NS PRO 950 Shaft is very popular with Asian golf players. But Japanese golf clubs are more expensive. Golfclubshotsale.com does not charge extra cost for different steel shaft for . I can’t help to recommending this site to all of you. Golfers who are used to shop golf equipments online may consider this site.

Properly selecting golf clubs could be said to be a science. The Japanese version golf clubs cost higher than American version clubs by 20% at least. So choosing online shopping must be a good choice. As we all know, there is a price advantage. The best way is to test in pro store in advance and buy it online.

Buy a 5 Wood or a 3 Wood?

Oktober 22, 2011

Question by lindee3000: Buy a 5 Wood or a 3 Wood?
I have been gradually building up my golf bag. I bought the ’07 Callaway Big Bertha 460 Driver and love it. I am thinking about getting either the 5 wood or 3 wood of the same series. I am not really what you would call a big hitter and I am a below average player. Any suggestions as to which club would be best suited for me? Thanks!

Look into Callaway Golf Operational Process

Oktober 21, 2011

is one of the most famous top golf manufacturers in the world. How can Callaway achieve such success?Let’s Look into Callaway Golf Operational Process, including clubs’ design, producing and sale process.

Callaway designs and tests all the shafts at the Helmstetter Center, and the clubheads are the same case. Callaway produces every prototype shaft by hand at the Helmstetter Center, but they contracts shaft-production out to other independent shaft producers as soon as specifications are fixed for the different graphite shafts which are used in its product line. As the same case with clubheads, callaway’s shafts comes from incoming shipments and inspected at R&D facility of Callaway company. While the steel shafts are contracted and tested in a similar way. In late 1990s, Callaway had produced as much as 50% of its graphite shafts by itself, but in 2000 contracted 100% of its shaft quto.

The reason why are able to achieve great improvement in its quality control inspections throughtout all the procedures of club’s assembly lies in Callaway golf’s cell manufacturing process. In addtion to that, the assembly factory was highly automated, with all processes requiring very tight tolerances performed by computer-controlled machinery. For instance, the drilling necessary to produce Callaway’s tapered hore-thru hosels was done by a series of precision drill presses that ensured that each hosel was drilled at the correct angle. As soon as the hosel had been drilled through, the clubhead moved to a production station that checked the lie and loft angles.       Now the following is about the shaft inspection process. Every shaft is inspected for fractures in priority to insert into the head of clubs, and then the entire assembled club was weighed to test the swing weight of clubs. Callaway workers who are on production line could choose between medallions of four different weights to bring a finished iron to the exact specified swing weight. The choosed medallion was permanently affixed to the back of clubhead with a press. Swing weights for assembled woods were brought to their specifications by inserting epoxy through a small hole in the rear of the clubhead.        After getting through a baking process, which dried the glue used to attach the shaft to the clubhead, each club was fitted with a grip using a laser alignment device, airburshed with details like the club number and Callaway trademarks, and then visually inspected for blemishes or other imperfections. Each finished club was wrapped by hand to protect its finish during shipping.       However, sales and customer service department takes great effort to new product development at Callaway Golf Company. It is a cross-funtional efforts included not only the R&D staff but also the company’s sales and advertising staffs. and advertising staffs evaluate new designs created by the company’s aerospace engineers and would recommand design changed, based on their knowledge of the market. Once a new design was settled on, Callaway’s sales force and internal advertising staff would creat a name for the new product line, an advertising campaign, and promotional materials that would accompany the product launch in parallel with the R&D staff’s development and testing processes.

Q&A: Why can’t I hit my irons that far?

Oktober 21, 2011

Question by Pantaloons: Why can’t I hit my irons that far?
I’ve been playing golf for two to three years now. I started by taking lessons from an excellent instructor in the Pinehurst area and have a nice compact smooth looking swing. I have a one plane swing that relies on my body rotation to hit the ball by slinging my upper body through the shot with my hips, and hit the ball straight (most of the time). My driver is fine and I can keep up with the guys I usually play with who hit around 260-290 on average. My irons however are usually 1-3 clubs shorter than they are. It wouldn’t bother me so much but it kills me on the par 3′s when it’s 175 yards and I’m hitting a 4 iron and they’re hitting 6 or 7. I would like to be able to use a more lofted club like that to stick the green rather than watch it hit and roll off the back on these narrow or shallow greens. I just don’t understand the drastic difference in the irons. I use Callaway X-18s that are stock except new grips. Any help, advice, or insight would be greatly appreciated.

Answer by ConnorWilhem3
Have you looked at swing speed or taped your club face to see where impact is?

You might be hitting the ball towards to the toe or heel. That gives up a lot of yardage.

I have the same type of problem and bought a few hybrid clubs. They really help get the ball in the air at the 170 to 190 yard distances.

You must be playing on really hardpan greens if you ball doesn’t stay…

Oktober 20, 2011

The special new technology Callaway golf adopted into these series club is aerodynamic design, which is aimed to reduce energy on the downswing process. Besides, forged composite material and VFT Face technology are another outstanding characteristics of thes razr clubs.

In 2011, every big golf brand has rolled out their new products. Callaway RAZR has caught public’s eyes from the beginning of this year. This whole series golf clubs has given the golf field a huge impact. When it comes to tee shots there are generally two forms of thought. One is to genrate maximum power without considering control. The other is to control your shot with less power. If you are aimed to control your shots more, Callaway RAZR series might be in your needs. However, if you only pursue the distance, maybe you will be interested in Callaway Diablo Octane driver. RAZR series products tends to be easily controlled in spite of pure long distance.

Very similar to the former Diablo Octane woods, the Callaway RAZR Hawk woods are made with Forged Composite material, which is not a new developed material. Forged Composite material was the achieved as a product of cooperation between Callaway golf clubsCo.and Top car company Lamborghini. This material features in super-light weight, used in crown and sole of razr hawk driver, which ensures stability and accuracy. This new revolutionary crown material is lighter and stronger than titanium. It helps golfers to hit the ball right where they aimed.

The Tour version and standard version Callaway RAZR golf clubs are equipped with ast titanium cup faces. The center of the cup face is thicker, while the edge areas are thinner, which guarantee the ball speed even if miss the sweet spot. To sum up, Callaway RAZR is the standard of distance, accuracy, control and stability. It could be said a big leap forward in the development of .

Callaway RAZR series clubs are especially suitable for those lower-skilled golfers or amateurs. Tour version RAZR Clubs are fantastic weapons for professional golf players. We have witnessed their power and performance in UK Opens. Phil Mikeleson used razr irons and had perfect shots.

How do I tell if a driver is counterfeit?

Oktober 20, 2011

Question by Dale H: How do I tell if a driver is counterfeit?
Hi,

I bought a Callaway Razr Hawk driver off eBay last week for $ 250 (auction), plus $ 11 for shipping and handling. Currently, at golf retail stores, this same driver is selling for $ 399.99.

I’ve owned several Callaway drivers (FT3, FT9, FT-IZ in I-mix), TaylorMade Burner 09, Cleveland Launcher Comp (I believe 2005). I know how Callaway drivers sound, and this one sounds the same at impact.

The S/N number verified with Callaway that it was a legit club. It passed the magnet test (magnets don’t stick to titanium), and I, as well as employees at a golf retail store, compared it to the clubs in the store and it looks exactly the same.

HOWEVER, an employee at Edwin Watts golf store told me that he doesn’t understand how someone could sell the Razr Hawk driver for $ 250 and make money. He believes something has to be going on… maybe Callaway reps/salespeople selling on eBay to make a profit, or it is the best counterfeit he has ever seen.

Please help if you have any ideas. The eBay retailer who sold the club has a 100% positive feedback percentage. The eBay member ID is gotgolfusa. This seller offered a 3 day return policy- which allows buyers time to compare to retail shops.

I played with the new driver this weekend and I got about the same distance using the Razr Hawk as the Callaway driver I use now- the FT-IZ Imix. The club appears legit.

Any ideas how someone can sell A 2011 MODEL CLUB FOR ABOUT 60% of the retail asking price? I’m new to eBay and buying/selling clubs on eBay.

Thanks!
Evelyn Flora- I’m not sure what’s going on. I read another one of your responses. What the heck are you talking about real clubs and the S/N numbers, then say I must express and be clear?

I clearly stated that the S/N number is legit. HOWEVER, MOST GOLF ENTHUSIASTS realize that clubs are sold as real Callaways, TaylorMade, etc, and DO INCLUDE A LEGIT S/N. ONCE A COUNTERFEITER has a legit S/N, the counterfeiter can then mass produce with the legit S/N.

Basically, S/N numbers on clubs don’t mean a whole lot.

I agree with the others that said if I’m hitting it well, then who cares. TRUE. However, how would I perform with the real deal.

I think I have a legit club. The feel of it compared to the others I held, side by side, was the same and couldn’t spot a anything at all different- but salespeople told me that counterfeit clubs have come a long way…. It also makes me question if Edwin Watts didn’t just tell me that it’s legit (you would think they’d know between a couple of

Should I change drivers when I am hitting it 320 yards at the driving range?

Oktober 19, 2011

Question by JW320YARDDRIVE: Should I change drivers when I am hitting it 320 yards at the driving range?
I started golf a month ago, and I have used a driver for 3 days now and my drives are going further and further with my avg drive being about 300 now and 2 out of 10 drives going about 320. Its fair to say I can hit 290-300 straight consistently but when I try to swing harder I tend to slice it and can only get about 20% of my shots to go 320 and straight. MY QUESTIONS ARE: 1. would changing clubs to the Callaway FT IQ with the same stiff shaft and 10 degree loft help me to be able to consistently hit it 320 and straight?

2. Would the Taylormade R9 be a better choice?

3. Should I just stick witht the callaway FT5 since I can hit it 300 consistently after just 3 days hitting a driver in my life?

BTW, I AM ABOUT 5 FOOT 11 AND 220 LBS WITH ABOUT 15% BODY FAT….THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR ANY RESPONSE AND FEEL FREE TO EMAIL ME SUGGESTIONS. I HAVENT HIT ANY OF MY OTHER CLUBS THE LAST 3 DAYS BECAUSE IM SO FASCINATED WITH THE DRIVER AND THE DISTANCE I AM GETTING, IT CAUSES A CROWD TO WATCH AT THE DRIVING RANGE AND I LIKE THE ATTENTION :)

Best answer:

Answer by Leafsfan29 is on the 1st tee
Sure…maybe have 10 or 12 different drivers in your bag.

You do understand that, on a typical 18 hole course you’ll hit the driver 14 times (at most).

Your putter will be used at least twice as much. Of course, you’ll soon post a “question” about how you shoot 53 for 18 holes and how you can bet the pros.

Your technical questions…either go see a PGA Professional, or keep fishing for compliments (you’ve clearly got a massive ego).

There’s an old saying…it’s not the arrow, it’s the Indian. Meaning it’s not the club, it’s the guy swinging it.
