Would a person with a slow golf swing speed benefit from using a senior flex shaft and a 12 degree driver?

Juni 6, 2010

I am currently using a regular flex shaft with a 10.5 degree driver head. I am getting a mid high trajectory and I am leaving the ball out to the right with the regular flex shaft.

Correct..I would go to your local professional club fitter and let him advise you on the correct shaft for your swing. He will measure your speed, etc. I did this after buying a new Taylormade driver in a stiff shaft to match my 107-110 mph speed. Although all the data on the computer seemed good, when I got it out to the course I couldn’t hit it unless I backed way off…I took it to the fitter that bent my irons for me. He measured the frequnency of the shaft and discovered that is wasn’t anywhere near a “stiff” shaft even though it clearly said stiff. It also showed how poor quality it was for it just didn’t move up and down in this tool measuring frequency…it started to make a circular pattern. My fitter explained to me that if you buy “off the shelf” drivers and not say Tour Preferred equipment, you are going to be getting a great driver head with a poor quality shaft that happens to have a great paint job. He discovered one of the problems with my off the shelf shaft was that it was 2″ too long. He explained that the manufactor does that because then when you are in the store and swinging it in front of a meter the extra length will give you increased head speed…simple physics. He replaced my shaft for about $130..and I hit it great now….I won’t be buying another piece of equipment without his advise again…..While your there, get your irons customized if you haven’t yet..He charged me about $3.00 per club and it made a huge inprovement.

Absolutely! Senior flex shafts are for lower swing speeds. The 12 degree driver will help you with height also. Good choice.

How old are you? If you’re a senior citizen, I’d opt for the senior flex. If not, stick with the regular. It isn’t the reason you’re leaving shots out to the right though. That is a swing flaw. It sounds like your club face isn’t completely square at impact or you maybe hanging on your right side at impact and not getting your weight on your front foot at impact which would send the ball to the right.

Yes, but the real key is to finish the swing, don’t take the club for granted. Good luck.

If this allows your to create the most natural effortless swing off the tee box, then by all mean, stay with it…what more can you ask?

For slower swing speed than regular, there is a Flex called “A” flex. It’s short for Amateur.

About the loft, get something like 13 degree…. Nike makes 13 degree drivers.
