  5. green_lantern66 Said,

Look at sole and topline widths when considering an iron- the thicker you go, the more forgiveness it’s going to give you. Contrast that with how the thinner versions aren’t as forgiving, but help with shot-making.

The Callaway X-20′s are a good idea- a little thicker head for forgiveness, but not so much that it distracts the eyes. The only problem with Callaway’s are the uniflex steel shafts- not good enough for the price. They’re too inconsistent. The “Tour” models come with good shafts, though, but might not be right for you right now.

Taylormade is notorious for strengthening the lofts of their irons and adding length to the shafts (especially the last couple of years, and not just the irons, but the woods, as well)- both to make you feel longer, but those additions don’t help with accuracy.

However, the r7 irons (not the “draw” versions) were very good irons, and you can probably get them on the cheap now. They’re a little like the X-20′s, but with a better shaft.

As I’ve said many times, get fit by a professional- a 46.5″ driver shaft won’t do anything for you if you can’t control it. Get fit for everything- the boost it gives to your game is worth the extra money.

  8. Jana Said,

The #1-wood driver and 3- and/or 5-wood fairway woods are the typical woods in a set

Irons – Irons are used for shorter golf shots, ranging from 100 yards to 200 yards. The iron that is used is determined, by the loft of the club head as well as the golfer’s ability to hit the ball a certain distance.
    A set traditionally includes a 3- through 9-iron.
