Q&A: Do some irons go farther than others based on their design/type of club? Will I lose distance switching irons?

I currently play the callaway x-20s which are fairly bulky and are an all around game improvement club. After playing with them a while, I realized I have acheived just about all these clubs have to offer in terms of feel, ball flight, spin and control. However, I can hit these a mile as I had an average distance of 210 yrds. from my six iron when I was getting fitted. I noticed it is easy to hit these a long way but there is hard to hit different shots other than a full on golf swing…. like punches or under the wind shots. So now I am looking at getting the mp-62s or Titleist ap2 but will I lose considerable distance with these clubs compared to my callaways? They seem a lot thinner and are designed for shot making and feel over sheer distance right?
P.S. What are some good irons on the market that are forgiving but still payable?( looking at mp-62 or titleist ap2s). Been playing 2 years and am currently ~14-16 handicap.

if you are good enough to hit the ping i10′s they will give u great control and distance

Yes you will probably loose some distance but you will gain more control and accuracy. You will like the way they look at address and the feel you get from a player club. I was raised on Wilson Staff blades and after years of playing large head forgiving clubs I went back to more of a player iron. I found a great deal on the Nickent 3dx pro. I love them. I lost some distance but I throw darts at the pin from 150 yards in. More birdie opportunities. Good Luck.
