GolfLogix GPS by Garmin Reviews

I purchased the Golflogix GPS instead of the more popular SkyCaddie because the Golflogix is made by Garmin. Obviously, Garmin knows GPS. The unit is actually a re-packaged Garmin eTrex. It is very solid and sturdy. When I bought it I found that three of the courses that I play were not mapped. I requested them and in one week they were available. Fantastic. I have also submitted questions via email and have been answered promptly. The unit is small and easy to use. It will increment holes automatically when I walk to the next hole. Most of the time I do not need to press any buttons. I would definitely recommend Golflogix.

I had one of the early models made by SkyCaddie, and this device is far superior. It’s easier to use, holds 20 downloaded courses (as opposed to 10), finds the course you are at (as opposed to scrolling through a list), is waterproof (as opposed to water resistant), cost far less to get a one year membership to downloadable courses, and turns on in seconds with distances (as opposed to minutes). The 2008 model measures the distance from your last shot so you can tell how far you are hitting each club.
It’s very easy to use. Just turn it on. I had no trouble downloading the courses, and I am a Mac user with the Mac Leopard operating system. The Garmin algorithn for finding distances is quick and accurate.
I really like it and can’t imaging playing golf without it!

GPS Golf Guru 4 Precise GPS/PDA Golf Rangefinder with Multi-application capabilities Reviews

I’ve had my Guru for about a month. I compared it to all of the Sky Caddie models as well as some of the other smaller vendors before purchasing.
First off, it works great. Follow the Quick Start directions and you’ll be off and running in no time. I like that it automatically checks for the latest firmware release and downloads that to your Guru (if needed) everytime you hook it up to download new courses.
It is the smallest unit out there — a little bigger than my Palm Centro but nice and thin/lite. I carry it in my back pocket and pull it out like a yardage book before every shot. It doesn’t get smashed if I sit in the cart either
I didn’t buy the Sky Caddie for the following reasons:
1. Size — it’s a little bigger/fatter than the Guru
2. Annual Fees — who wants to pay /year ??
3. Satellite Acquisition — these things only work well if they’re able to sync to enough Satellites to be accurate. I’d heard from a few friends that they no longer use their Sky Caddies because they would lose “sync” too many times to be useful/trusted. Guru syncs fast and connects to more Satellites.
The Guru has far fewer courses than the Sky Caddie but they’ve been able to map all of the courses I’ve requested (at least 5) in less than 7 days — certainly acceptable to me.
One other suggestion if you have a Guru and a Garmin Nuvi (360 is what I have)– the A/C charger works for both (if you’re like me, it’s hard to keep all of my cords/chargers tagged, etc). Save the from Golf Guru and use your Garmin charger.
In a nutshell, if you want a fairly simple device that works great and fits in your pocket, The Guru is the one for you. When you’re on the course, fancy color graphics aren’t going to lower your score — quick, accurate info at your fingertips will …

Just got mine and played my first round with it this weekend – very impressed with operation and ease of use. Unit is small (cell phone size) Course download was easy (and free) and once I turned it on there was little to do other than switch between views – information presented on the screen is thorough and useful and I am pleased that I can read it without my reading glasses. I am going to look for a carrying case to attach it to my bag but otherwise it just needs more courses loaded. I have not personally used the competing products (SkyCaddie, Garmin, etc.) but I would recommend this on the basis of cost and ease of use.

IZZO Swami 1500 Golf GPS Unit Reviews

I ordered the swami, received it on time, easily hooked it up to my computer, loaded my home course and played nine holes that night. It worked just as advertised. Often my ball lands where yardage markers are not readily available. Swami proved to be a great help in club selection in these all to frequent situations. The next day I requested mapping for some local unmapped courses and ordered a Swami for my wife. While the company states an unmapped course will be mapped within 5-10 business days, I was notified by e-mail four days later that the courses that I had requested were mapped. These courses were easily loaded into my Swami. I used it on one of the newly mapped courses the next weekend and Swami really helped my club selection on a less familiar course. When we took my wife’s new Swami to our home course the unit did not recognize the course. I took it home and reloaded it and had the same problem. I gave it one more try. It worked for 11 holes and then yardage displayed by the unit went wacky. She was standing about 130 yards out and the display kept changing by hundreds of yards and never settled down. I called Swami support the next morning, and in less than 24 hours she had a new fully charged Swami in her hands loaded with her course choices. The new unit works as advertised. Great friendly customer service!

Just purchased the Swami 1500 and used it this weekend. Fully accurate and with numbers plenty large enough for me to see without my glasses, which I don’t wear when playing. Really easy to use too. LOVE IT!

Leupold GX-I Digital Golf Rangefinder Reviews

I spent a lot of time researching both the Leupold GX-1 and the Bushnell V2 but all I could find, even in a large city, was the V2 to actually put my hands on. Thus, I had to take a chance and purchase the GX-1 online, but I am SO GLAD I did. If all you want is the short version of this…then go purchase the GX-1 as it’s MILES ahead of the V2 in “every” aspect. If you want a few particulars…read on.
In addition to a product “being” right, I want it to “look” right and “feel” right. The GX-1 does these in spades. Just holding it, you know you’re holding quality, and not something made of inferior plastic that will likely not look the same in six months of normal, let alone rugged, use. The GX-1 has a very rugged, rubberized feel that simply feels good in your hands.
Reticles. We’re all different and we all prefer to view things differently through a rangefinder. The V2 has only one reticle (a small circle), while the GX-1 has seven different reticles from which to choose. I found I was comfortable with the default reticle setting, but for those who are not, there are six other available reticles. As opposed to the V2, the reticles on the GX-1 are very fine in detail…more professionally displayed would be a way to describe them. While the reticle on the V2s that I looked at seemed to have thicker lines and were more distracting, with some jagged edges in some cases. I noticed the same thing about the yardage numbers…they were larger and more defined in the GX-1.
6X magnification (GX-1) vs. 5x with the V2. I think it’s just enough of a noticeable enhancement to be worthy of mentioning. I don’t see much of a difference in viewing a flag or small target, but there’s a big difference when shooting the front/back edges of a fairway bunker that give the GX-1 a big edge here with 17% more magnification.
Speed of acquiring the target. Here’s where the GX-1 one absolutely blows away every Bushnell rangefinder on the market. The GX-1 is almost instantaneous, where the V2 won’t display the range for what seems like a couple of seconds. That may not sound like much…but it seems like an eternity when you just want to shoot the flag and get on with your shot. The Callaway/Nikon rangefinders are also fast…but they are still no match in the other categories for the GX-1.
If you’re a hunter, you know that Leupold has been around for a lot longer than Bushnell, making what hunters think are some the best and affordable optics available. The fact is that Bushnell is a very large company with obviously a large marketing budget, so you’re going to see more of them and their products, especially in the retail stores. But that doesn’t make them the best…only the biggest with the deepest pockets.
Technical support. I called both companies with a list of pre-sale questions and the person with whom I spoke at Bushnell might easily have been outsourced, though I doubt he was. He simply was not technically conversant in his own products. Contrarily, the person with whom I spoke at Leupold had all the answers, and made me feel comfortable he was an expert in the Leupold products.
If you want a high quality rangefinder that is better in all aspects than its competition, you simply can’t do better than the Leupold GX-1 (tournament legal) or the GX-2 (compensates for slope, temperature, and also tells you what club to hit…after you train it).

I did research between multiple range finders and different 3rd party reviews and ratings. This was consistently one of the best according to the reviews and ratings. I love this range finder. My friend has a buschnell and that takes around 30 seconds to get the reading back. This product takes a second to get a reading back which helps out with pace of play. Can’t say enough about this product. This is the best range finder out there for its price.
